Chief Revenue Officer

Location: Austin, TX
Reports to: CEO

Position Profile

The Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) is a newly created position responsible for the strategic growth and monetization of new and existing revenue streams to ensure the financial sustainability of the organization. As an expert in capacity building, the CRO will forge relationships to build The Long Center’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. This includes designing and implementing comprehensive institutional advancement programs and developing talented team members focused on the ultimate goal of significantly increasing constituent involvement, fundraising strategies, and revenue outcomes.

Reporting to the CEO, the CRO will serve as a key member of the executive team and will actively participate in making strategic growth decisions affecting the Long Center. They will oversee a revenue team of approximately seven full-time employees across the sectors of sales and development. The CRO will engage the entire organization – including board, staff, and volunteers – in shaping strategy, priorities, structures, and plans for supporting a culture of philanthropy and growing revenue.

Key Executive Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive revenue-generation strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Lead and manage all revenue-generating departments, including sponsorships, grants, fundraising, and rentals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, government agencies, and other stakeholders to maximize financial support.
  • Identify new sources of revenue and diversify funding streams through innovative ideas and partnerships.
  • Support partnerships with the city and other public sectors to collaborate on public initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and execution of fundraising campaigns, including corporate, annual giving, major gifts, grants, and planned giving programs.
  • Monitor and analyze financial data, market trends, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth and revenue optimization.
  • Manage the budgeting and forecasting process for revenue-related activities, ensuring adherence to financial goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the revenue team, including setting performance targets, conducting regular evaluations, and promoting professional development.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop effective strategies to build revenue-driving campaigns across all income streams, promote events, and maximize attendance.
  • Collaborate with box office, food and beverage, and other departments to maximize transactions.
  • Stay up-to-date regarding industry best practices and regulations related to revenue generation in the non-profit sector.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in revenue generation and financial management with a passion for non-profit arts organizations.
  • Strong understanding of the non-profit sector – specifically corporate giving, public-private partnerships, venue/event center leadership, philanthropic landscape, and grant-funding processes.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams towards achieving revenue targets.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to identify opportunities and implement effective revenue-generation strategies.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Familiarity with marketing and promotional strategies for arts organizations or public-private partnerships is a plus.
