Event Details

Austin Dance Festival is an annual dance festival held in Austin, TX. Founded in 2015 by Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company, the festival promotes modern dance, post-
modern dance, contemporary dance, experimental dance, and improvisational dance in studios, schools, professional theaters, on screen, and in non-traditional settings. There
are curated events that celebrate creativity such as professional dance showcases, concerts by youth dance companies, and dance on film screenings; master classes for
dancers seeking to enhance their own performance or teaching skills; artist interviews and directors’ chats for those who want to dive deep; and a college dance fair to educate
students and families about careers in dance.

This year, three Professional Dance Showcases feature extraordinary pieces by 22 different dance companies from across the country, including Texas, Utah, North Carolina,
California, New York, and Ohio, all with a unique story to tell. Interviews with the artists follow each showcase.

Two different Dance on Film screenings highlight twenty-three indie film shorts from six countries, including Cuba, Hungary, Australia, and Denmark, that deliver new ways to
see and experience dance. The screenings present a variety of dance styles that explore themes such as social constructs, perceptions of identity, mythology, and sisterhood.
Numerous films have won prestigious awards or received critical acclaim. A Director’s Chat follows both screenings. Some films contain adult content.

Youth dance companies traveling from as far away as Iowa will perform in a non-competitive, professionally-produced dance concert. This performance is appropriate for all
ages. All attendees are invited to attend the college dance fair in the lobby to learn more information about college programs and careers in dance.
All performances and screenings are uniquely different. There are no repeating events.
