Long Center Presents: The Drop-In

Our free outdoor concert series returns!  Every Thursday through August 14, we’ll provide the tunes and the view if you bring the energy. With 23 bands and plenty of opportunity to let loose, it’s time to shake off your blankets and lawn chairs, double-check you have all the Drop-In info you need, and prepare to vibe on our H-E-B Stage all summer long.

This week at The Drop-In: 

GETO GALA

Hailing from the heart of Texas, Geto Gala is the powerhouse duo formed by two solo artists (Deezie Brown & Jake Lloyd) from Austin who joined forces to create something bigger than themselves. Both artists carved out their own lanes in the city’s underground rap scene, earning respect for their sharp lyricism, raw storytelling, and dynamic stage presence.

BLAKCHYL

Rapper Blakchyl’s (formerly known as T-Fly) is a talented, community-minded wordsmith, having come up in the local hip hop community collaborating with music collectives, nonprofits and filmmakers. The queer artist has three European tours under her belt plus opening slots for Talib Kweli, Snow Tha Product, Jean Grae, Bizzy Bone and Scarface and her new album Better Than I Imagined (produced by The Mask), was accompanied by a short film and dropped in July. Always indefatigable, she recently landed a deal with Brighton, UK-based Tru Thought Records as well as an Austin Chronicle cover, was nominated for Best Hip Hop Artist, released an EP (Call Me Sometimes) and played a Waterloo Records in-store. It all comes down to her “powerful and effervescent songs” (CultureMap) and her love for the craft and it’s community.
