The concert opens with Lyric for Strings by Pulitzer Prize winner George Walker, considered one of America’s greatest composers. William Grant Still’s expressive 5th Symphony, Western Hemisphere, paints a beautiful picture as he describes it as, “when the new day dawns, the lands of the Western Hemisphere are raised from the bosom of the Atlantic.”
