Join us at the Long Center Thursday April 11, 2018 to recognize the hard work of students and teachers and to celebrate the importance of musical theatre and arts education within our community.

The Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards Ceremony will be similar in nature to the annual Tony Awards honoring Broadway productions. The Awards Ceremony will celebrate the outstanding achievements of high school teachers and students with a combination of school performances, multi-school student performances, and awards. Students will experience the thrill of performing on a state-of-the-art stage in a professional venue. The Long Center and its partners are proud to showcase the talent and dedication of our local high school musical theatre students as they perform for the community at large.

Tickets for the 2017 ceremony went on-sale to the general public March 27, 2017 at noon. Check back later to find out when tickets go on-sale for the 2018 ceremony!

Ceremony Performances

A large part of the ceremony will consist of performances by participating schools and award nominees. These performances will be produced by the Long Center and its partners and will employ the services of a professional director, choreographer, and musical director. Participating students will be expected to rehearse prior to the show and on the day of the show.

Lead Actor/Actress Medleys All performers nominated for Best Actor or Actress in a Lead Role will be in a medley showcasing each individual performer.

Lead/Supporting/Featured Performers All performers nominated for Best Actor or Actress in Lead and Supporting Roles and Best Featured Performer are showcased in one number together.

Finale Participants Each participating school must submit one male and one female performer to sing and dance in the finale. This does not need to be a students who appeared in the adjudicated performance. The only thing we ask is that they are hardworking, available for rehearsals, and able to sing and dance. They represent each school’s musical and will need to wear a costume from the show.

Select Ensemble An ensemble will be selected though an audition process to perform throughout the evening. Rehearsals will be scheduled for February, March, and April 2017, with a few rehearsals starting in October 2016. Learn more on the Select Ensemble page.

Best Musical Nominees Schools nominated for Best Musical Production will perform a group number on stage during the Awards Ceremony. The number (from the nominated production) must be under 5 minutes in length. The Awards Ceremony Director/Choreographer will set up a rehearsal at the school to prepare the number for the Dell Hall stage.
