The Long Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit dedicated to broadening the appreciation and enhancing the enjoyment of the cultural arts.

The Long Center and Fusebox Festival present an evening with Joseph Keckler, January 23 – 24 in Rollins Studio Theatre.

“Shatters the conventional boundaries of classical singing… The sensibility of a magician, a trickster’s dark humor and a formidable musical and literary erudition. Major vocal talent.” —Stephen Holden, The New York Times

The incomparable Joseph Keckler presents an evening of wild miniature operas about contemporary life, haunted torch songs, and narratives infused with humor and longing. Joseph Keckler is a vocalist, writer, songwriter and performance artist. His work often combines autobiography, humor, and classical themes. He has been featured on BBC America and WNYC Soundcheck and has appeared at Lincoln Center, Art Basel Miami, SXSW, Centre Pompidou, and many other venues. He has received a Creative Capital, NYFA Fellowship, Franklin Furnace grant, and Village Voice Award for “Best Downtown Performance Artist.” He is currently finishing an album of music, and a collection of his writing, Dragon at the Edge of a Flat World was published by Turtle Point Press in 2017.

Keckler will be accompanied by composer Peter Stopschinski, who has composed music for Madeleine George’s play: The Curious Case of the Watson Intelligence, which was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Drama. He has also composed music/lyrics for New York Musicals Festival’s 2015 Winner Best in Show: The Calico Buffalo, string arrangements for Grupo Fantasma’s Grammy Award-winning album El existential, and the film score for two-time Academy Award-winning director Al Reinert’s film Rara Avis: The Life of John Audubon. His operas and musicals have been performed across the country from Arena Stage (DC) to Playwrights Horizons (NYC) to Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theater (LA).

  • Early Bird tickets are available for $22, September 12 – October 31 in limited quantity.
