Long Center Concert Club presents The Jeff Lofton Electric Thang, Wednesday, October 25 in the Rollins Studio Theatre.
“Austin-based trumpeter, composer and band leader Jeff Lofton is a veritable jazz virtuoso. Comparisons are frequently made to Miles Davis—and rightfully so. Lofton’s take on standards frequently astounds, and his originals are equally delicious.” – KUT 90.5 FM
Jazz artist Jeff Lofton—together with his groups The Jeff Lofton Trio and The Jeff Lofton Electric Thang—has quickly become a household name around Austin’s low-key bars and jazz lounges. Lofton arrived in Austin in 2007, blowing the underground scene away with his Miles Davis tributes and original compositions. Through word-of-mouth and continued presence in the jazz festival scene, Jeff Lofton’s trumpeting has become the jazz sound of Austin.
Formed in 2010, the Jeff Lofton Electric Thang is described as jazz-funk, rock fusion. The group’s first album, “Chasing the Voodoo Down – Live at the Cactus Cafe” was released May 14, 2011. The Jeff Lofton Electric Thang also debuted a “Bitches Brew” tribute to Miles Davis’ legendary album, and has performed at Antone’s, Momo’s, Lambert’s and Speakeasy around town.
