Professional Theatre for Youth and Children

The founders of Pollyanna Theatre Company believe that theatre is a powerful teaching tool that speaks to people of all ages in a unique and powerful way through a variety of visual, aural, and emotional languages. Therefore, theatre should be a part of all general education from Kindergarten through adulthood. Toward that end, The Pollyanna Theatre Company strives to work along side educators to inspire, motivate, and teach audiences of all ages. Although the company’s primary focus is upon young audience members, the ensemble performs top quality theatrical productions that speak to and illuminate the human spirit and condition for all ages.

About Pollyanna Theatre Company

Pollyanna Theatre was founded in late 2000 for the purpose of creating and performing new, original plays for young people. Pollyanna moved all production work into the Long Center on the Center’s opening weekend in 2008 and currently produces plays for school and public audiences in The Rollins Studio Theatre, making the Long Center Pollyanna’s creative home.

Pollyanna has produced over 30 new plays for young people since inception in 2000 and currently presents a full season of four productions. Pollyanna Theatre Company also maintains an ongoing multi-arts collaboration with Ballet Austin and The Umlauf Sculpture Garden that creates new dance dramas for young audiences, performing in the public schools each year.

New in the 2012-2013 season, Pollyanna has entered into a strategic alliance with the Long Center to provide ongoing arts educational services to elementary school located within a three mile radius of the Long Center. Three schools are included in this first year of the project: Becker Elementary, Dawson Elementary and Baty Elementary. As resources grow, the partnership’s goal is to serve a minimum of seven area schools with high at-risk populations through in-school classes linked to performances at the Long Center.
