February 1st, members of Austin’s business and technology communities will gather to talk shop, innovation, and the future of our world at Business Innovation Summit + National Forecast Update. With a lot going on that morning, we’d like to take a second to introduce to you our speakers and panelists for the day!
John E. Silvia, Ph.D. John Silvia is a managing director and the Chief Economist for Wells Fargo. John also worked on Capitol Hill as senior economist for the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee and chief economist for the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. John served as the president of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) in 2015 and is on the Bloomberg Best Forecast list for his forecasts of GDP, the ISM manufacturing index, housing starts, and the unemployment rate. He holds B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from Northeastern University in Boston and has a master’s degree in economics from Brown University.
Greg Hartman. Greg Hartman is currently Chief of External Affairs and Academic Affairs with Seton Healthcare Family. Greg has been heavily involved in efforts to bring translational medical research and academic medicine to Central Texas. His efforts along with many others helped bring to the community the new Dell Medical School at UT Austin and the new Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas. Before joining Seton, Greg worked around the nation as a consultant for public affairs, communications, marketing and strategic planning. He has also worked as strategic consultant for several political campaigns, including campaigns for President, the U.S. Senate and numerous statewide campaigns.
Amy Holloway. Amy Holloway is the energetic leader of Avalanche Consulting, Inc., the nation’s leading economic development consultancy which provides targeted economic development strategies, custom research and communications platforms for communities around the country. With 21 years of experience as a strategist, Amy has authored economic development plans for city Chambers across the country, has served on the boards of many Austin institutions, and in 2012 was named one of the five most influential women in Austin by the Austin Business Journal.
Mellie Price. Mellie Price is the Executive Director of Technology Innovation at the Dell Medical School. She is an experienced investor, executive, fund manager and eight-time entrepreneur with a range of business experience from small private sector to a large publicly traded organization. She has created and managed both organic and explosive growth scenarios for a variety of organizations. She is a proud member of the Board of Directors for Leadership Austin and the Sustainable Food Center. She is also a founding Advisor to Texas Competes and currently serves on the Social Innovation Council and the Technology Advisory Committee for Austin Mayor Steve Adler.
Gaurav Chand. Gaurav Chand has spent over 2 decades in the technology industry and currently serves as Senior Vice President of Global Solutions Marketing for Dell EMC. Gaurav joined Dell in 2000 and has held a variety of enterprise-related roles, including management of the company’s North America Enterprise and Federal Government Marketing teams and leading the marketing and customization of solutions that increase efficiencies across specific vertical sectors. Prior to joining Dell, Gaurav held management roles at Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals and SoftLab Limited. Gaurav has a Bachelor of Computer Science from Fergusson College, India and a Master’s in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
