A Swingin' Christmas | The Long Center for the Performing Arts

Celebrate the Season in Swingin’ Style with Stritch, Caruso, and Blackhurst!

Don’t have enough Bing Crosby in your holiday plans? What about Frank Sinatra? Well, one can only watch White Christmas or Holiday Inn so many times before they lose their sparkle. Lucky for you, A Swingin’ Christmas is right around the corner. And with this frightful weather outside, timing couldn’t be better!

You may be familiar with cabaret stars Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch—they showed off their Sinatra chops earlier in the year in our Rollins Studio Theatre with The Sinatra Century, and audiences couldn’t get enough. Take these two crooners, add the stunning vocals of Klea Blackhurst, and sprinkle on a bit of holiday spice (easy on the cinnamon!)—and voila! You’ve got the perfect, intimate evening of  groovy holiday classics with a charming, swingin’ twist.

Don’t miss this chance to be “happily hip” (Talkin’ Broadway) this holiday season by making some early holiday plans to see Stritch, Caruso and Blackhurst “serve up the holly and mistletoe with hilarious style,” (Next Magazine). And put a swing in your yuletide step! The Long Center is pleased to bring this merry and mirthful show to Austin for the first time.

And now, to introduce you to the stars…

BILLY STRITCH is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scene. His most recent nightclub act Billy Stritch sings the Mel Tormé Songbook earned rave reviews from the New York music critics. With cabaret appearances at venues across multiple continents and plenty of awards to boast, Billy is also an accomplished songwriter and arranger who has collaborated with many artists, and has appeared on several morning and late night television programs, including Oprah and The Today Show.

JIM CARUSO made his Broadway debut alongside Liza Minnelli in the Tony Award-winning smash hit Liza’s At The Palace! With successful tours across the country, he has done it all. He was invited to sing at President Clinton’s First State Dinner at the White House, and celebrated Bing Crosby in concert at Carnegie Hall with Rosemary Clooney (what a treat!). Caruso has won six MAC and two BackStage Bistro Awards for his sold-out New York Shows, and he continues to entertain in his Broadway at Birdland concert series—complete with that signature smile!

KLEA BLACKHURST‘s vast theatre credits include Rose in Gypsy and Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes. Blackhurst is best known for her acclaimed tribute to Ethel Merman, Everything the Traffic Will Allow, that has been charming audiences and critics alike nationwide since its New York debut in 2001. Among many accolades, this production earned her the inaugural Special Achievement Award from Time Out New York magazine. Blackhurst’s jazzy style and smooth vocals are just the thing to cinch up A Swingin’ Christmas in style, with a perfect holiday bow.

For a taste—get into the spirit of the season with this track. There’s plenty more where this came from!

Celebrate the season with A Swingin’ Christmas December 20 – 22, and enjoy an evening of yuletide cheer you can actually snap your fingers to!
