Tomatito, the flamenco guitar great, is bringing his classical guitar panache to the Long Center on November 2nd. Presented by Flamenco Austin, a program of Austin Classical Guitar, tickets for Tomatito go on sale next week.
Why “Tomatito,” you ask? José Fernández Torres comes from a line of El Tomate-s—specifically his grandfather and father. It’s safe to say, growing up in Almería and with an extremely musical family, that he has had plenty of experience in the flamenco tradition. “There’s nothing profound about it. It’s just what I am,” Tomatito says about his favorite musical style in this SFGate feature.
As a child prodigy with many larger-than-life mentors, including Paco de Lucía and El Camarón de la Isla, Tomatito has developed a solo career that’s dazzled audiences at festivals in both Spain and abroad, and quickly racked up Grammy Awards, other accolades, and a list of successful albums and collaborative projects.
Take a listen to this flamenco stand-out and see what the rest of the world has been talking about for decades.
Join us for an evening of foot-stamping, hand-clapping classical guitar with Tomatito, November 2nd at the Long Center.
