Here it is! Long Center Concert Club, our series featuring authentic Austin musical experiences returns for the 2016-2017 Season. Concert Club is intimate, visceral, and up close and personal, and this year’s lineup brings more of the outstanding local talent you’ve come to expect from the Live Music Capital of the World. It all starts September 8 with Sara Hickman, and now’s your chance to join the club, too.
Singer-songwriter and an Official State Musician of Texas, Sara Hickman knows how to write ’em and pick ’em. Successful in her own right with all ages, including families and children, she has released over 15 albums, collaborated on two dozen more, and has made her mark on television and film, including her independent video Joy (USA Film Festival) and a PBS documentary titled Take It Like A Man.
“Tuneful, clever and carefully observed, Sara Hickman’s material has all the strengths expected of a contemporary Texas songwriter, plus one more—whimsy,” writes Rolling Stone. Her most affecting record, Shine, had critics and fans alike singing her praises. Sara’s talent for songwriting and story telling has not gone unnoticed—the Associated Press states, “Seek out her albums and club shows for her melodic sense, excellent guitar playing, rich voice and mix of sunny optimism with heartache,”—and we couldn’t agree more.
Sara has been covered by artists such as Shawn Colvin, the Flatlanders, Robert Earl Keen, and Willie Nelson, has toured with Billy Bragg, Dan Fogelberg and Naci Griffith, and has opened for The Decemberists, John Hiatt, and Lucinda Williams. Sara Hickman knows songwriting and she knows Texas—experience the whimsy for yourself September 8.
But what makes Concert Club special? It takes full advantage of the Long Center’s most versatile space—Rollins Studio Theatre–and allows us to open up that same space to the whole city.
Your continued support of Concert Club underwrites rental costs in the Rollins by providing half of your membership dues to the Redd Carpet Initiative, a program that enables the Long Center to subsidize expenses for these same organizations, and in turn, enabling access to world-class facilities and staff.
Find more Concert Club details here, including exclusive benefits like cabaret-style seating, complimentary dinner, and more. Ready to become a member? Please contact Seth Sather at (512) 457-5117 or by email to take the next step. (Membership this season is limited, so act fast!)
