Cory Baker Named President and CEO of Austin’s Creative Home

Long Center concludes national search for new Chief Executive

AUSTIN, Texas – Long Center Board Chair Patsy Woods Martin announced today that Cory Baker has been named as the organization’s president and CEO. Baker had been in the role on an interim basis since May.

Today’s announcement marks the culmination of a thorough national executive search.

Baker was originally hired at the Long Center in September of 2015 as vice president of programming and production.  Prior to the Long Center, Baker served as vice president, director at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts in Scottsdale, Arizona. There, she developed new programming and initiatives that increased revenue from sales and donations. She also significantly diversified audiences and increased local, national and international partnerships.

Woods Martin observed that although the national search was thorough and intense, the decision was easy. “We knew when we first met Cory last year that we had found someone very special,” said Woods Martin. “Every day since then, she has continued to demonstrate the kind of leadership, vision, passion and strategic thinking that we believe are critical to guiding the Long Center through its next chapter.”

Baker said it’s an exciting time to take the helm. “There are enormous opportunities ahead for the Long Center, and I am delighted to be part of the future of Austin’s creative home,” said Baker. “The arts are such a spectacular way to highlight the diversity and cultural richness of a city like Austin, and I want to make sure the Long Center is always at the forefront of that.”

Baker holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in sociology and religious studies from Arizona State University and has more than 15 years of experience working in the arts. She is the Vice President of the Western Arts Alliance.
