About the Show
First debuted in April 2014, the Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards has grown from 19 participating high schools to 26. The upcoming April 14th awards ceremony will feature a variety of performances from the nominated casts, a medley showcasing lead actors and actresses; musical numbers performed by lead, supporting and featured actors; a finale including a male and female from each participating school; a select ensemble chosen through audition; and performances from each of the eight Outstanding Musical nominees throughout the event.
The event will be held in Michael and Susan Dell Hall on the Meredith Family Stage of the Joe R and Theresa Lozano Long Center for the Performing Arts. Of the 26 schools and over 2,000 local students competing, nearly 500 of those students will perform live onstage at the ceremony. The three-hour event will acknowledge outstanding student achievements in 15 categories, ranging from set design and musical direction to acting and production. Students and schools are encouraged to work from a list of pre-approved musicals to be considered for nomination.
