From Here to Seinfeld: the Amazing Career of Pat Hazell (The Wonder Bread Years Runs December 19-22 at the Long Center)

It’s been a long road from The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson to Austin, Hometown boy Pat Hazell has made some stops along the way, including a stint as lead writer on Seinfeld. This month, Pat brings his nationally acclaimed flagship show The Wonder Bread Years back to the Long Center December 19-22.

Looking back at the most impactful moments of my life, the pendulum swings back and forth from career highlight to personal achievements. From being one of the original writers on NBC’s Seinfeld to the birth of my children.  From my Tonight Show debut with Johnny Carson to evacuating after Hurricane Katrina and finding a safehaven in Austin.  From having plays produced to family reunions.  Through it all True North is always pointed at having a good sense of humor and sharing with anyone I come in contact with. I have thoroughly enjoyed contributing commentaries to National Public Radio and sharing my offbeat perspective on Americana humor.

My flagship show, The Wonder Bread Years is a comic salute to the baby-boomer generation and our collective American consciousness.  It is never quite the same show twice so it is like surfing a wave.  The goal is to ride that wave all the way to shore without ever taking it for granted.

As the Chief Creative Officer of Sweetwood Productions in Austin, TX, I have expanded my responsibilities beyond stand up comedy and regularly  create, direct and produce live theater productions such as Bunk Bed Brothers, The Good Humor Men, Grounded For Life, Nashville Backstage, American Pie, Cocktails with Larry Miller and A Kodachrome Christmas.

I really enjoy Austin and all it has to offer.  I have been lucky enough to host the annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, moderate  interviews with Hollywood’s most sought after directors and writers for The Austin Film Festival and The PBS series “On Story.” My company Sweetwood Productions has adopted the new tag this year: “Your Humor Resources Department.”

However, my single greatest accomplishment is being the father of two of the brightest shining stars in the universe.  Nothing really matters without family balance on the scale to keep the humanity and heart at the core of every projects .

The Wonder Bread Years runs in our intimate Rollins Studio Theatre December 19-22. The show is appropriate for all ages, and families are welcome. Please visit our website to purchase tickets.
