The Evolution of Godspell Continues, November 26- 27 at the Long Center

“Godspell” has become a timeless tradition in the theatre. It first premiered in 1970 and has been made into countless productions and even a movie. Let this show be apart of your holiday traditions this year. See “Godspell” at The Long Center, November 26-27.

The movie version of “Godspell” came out in 1973 and was inspired by the Off-Broadway production which ran for over 2,100 performances. The film was entered into the Cannes Film festival when it was released is “certified fresh” by Rotten Tomatoes. If you look closely you’ll recognized Victor Garber as Jesus under all of that hair!

After the show’s success Off-Broadway and on film, “Godspell” opened on Broadway  on June 22, 1976 at the  Broadhurst Theatre. Check out this throw back of when the original Broadway cast was on the Today Show.

The Broadway production was revived in 2011 and featured some familiar faces including  Hunter Parish (Weeds), Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black), and Telly Leung (Glee).

Now “Godspell” has hit the road and is bringing it’s joyful production to The Long Center with the new touring cast.

The composer of “Godspell” has been keeping busy all these years too. He also wrote the music for a little show called “Wicked” which just celebrated it’s 10th anniversary on Broadway.
