SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody turns the erotic best-seller into a bigger-than-life musical on June 6-8 at the Long Center.
Fifty Shades of Grey sparked viral parodies like few other published works ever have. An erotic love story between college graduate Anastasia Steele and successful businessman Christian Grey, the novel has inspired everything from mock audiobooks to karaoke sequences. Filled to the brim with laugh-out-loud sexiness, SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody now offers one of the best comedies yet.
To celebrate SPANK!’s arrival at the Long Center, here are some social media favorites that poked fun at the sexually explicit pop culture hit:
“Ellen Reads ’50 Shades of Grey’” on The Ellen Degeneres Show
In this spoof, Ellen Degeneres tries her hand at recording a Fifty Shades of Grey audiobook. After several takes and a plethora of euphemisms, grimaces, and the single best one-liner about pancakes, Ellen concludes that the company needs to hire someone else.
“Amazon Mother’s Day Ad” on Saturday Night Live
Mother’s Day is supposed to be the remedy for under-appreciated moms across the country. But instead of pampering from their families, these moms just want to read Fifty Shades of Grey – and reading isn’t all they want to do on their own.
“Gilbert Gottfried Reads Fifty Shades of Grey” made by Jest
Gilbert Gottfried is perhaps most known for voicing the parrot Iago in Disney’s Aladdin. In the same overly dramatic and scratchy tone, he recites Fifty Shades of Grey for another hilariously fake audiobook.
“50 Shades of Grey Karaoke” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
It’s not just karaoke. It’s a karaoke competition complete with tacky romantic backdrops. The contestants also pantomime their lyrics – all verbatim Fifty Shades of Grey passages.
“Fifty Shades of Blue” made by Funny or Die, featuring Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez’s character falls head over heels for a wall painter she hired. She appears oblivious to his less than suave charms and misinterprets his every action.
“Fifty Sheds of Grey” on Twitter
Fifty Sheds of Grey now comes in a book version! The author transforms passages from Fifty Shades of Grey into all things garden-related. Several ought to require the disclaimer, “Get your head out of the gutter!” (Get it? Gutter? As in the garden’s? Okay, time to leave the comedy to the professionals.)
Each firm stroke was bringing me closer and closer to that moment of relief and satisfaction. Soon my shed would be completely weatherproof.
